Why might my pet need blood work?
Your pet may need blood work for various reasons. One obvious reason would be if they are sick or showing signs of concern and we need to determine the root cause. Another reason might be if your pet is about to have surgery and we want to check out to evaluate their internal organ function to ensure they're healthy enough to withstand the procedure. Illnesses, such as heartworm disease or intestinal worms, aren’t always obvious, so we do laboratory work to see if those things exist in that particular patient. We also conduct blood work during annual wellness exams, giving us a baseline to tell us if something is wrong at future appointments.
